LabelLight — Terms of Use

Last updated: 3 October 2026

LabelLight helps you spot ingredients. It can miss things. It never tells you that a food is fine for you to eat. Always read the package and follow your doctor’s advice. LabelLight is not a medical device.

Agreement

These terms apply to your use of the LabelLight app. LabelLight is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA), together with these additional terms. If the two conflict, these terms apply to the extent the Standard EULA allows. By downloading or using LabelLight you accept them.

What the app does

LabelLight reads the text of food labels with your device’s camera and compares it with a list of words you choose to avoid (allergens, intolerance packs and custom words). It can also look up a barcode in Open Food Facts, an open third-party database. It shows which words matched and whether a “may contain” statement was found.

LabelLight does not test food, does not diagnose or treat any allergy, intolerance or condition, and does not give medical advice. Allergen lists follow the US FALCPA and FASTER Act (9 major food allergens), EU Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 Annex II (14) and Japan’s Food Labeling Standards (8 mandatory items, 特定原材料); intolerance packs flag ingredients by name, without serving sizes or thresholds.

LabelLight Pro: subscriptions

LabelLight Pro is an auto-renewing subscription offered through Apple In-App Purchase:

Prices are in US dollars; the price in your country is shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The free trial converts to a paid annual subscription automatically and you are charged when it ends, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. If you allow notifications, the app reminds you 2 days before the trial ends. A subscription renews automatically at the same price and period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription, where applicable. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.

LabelLight Pro: Lifetime

Lifetime is a one-time purchase of $59.99 (non-consumable) that unlocks the same Pro features without a subscription. It does not renew and is not charged again. If you already have a subscription, buying Lifetime does not cancel it; cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings. Use Restore Purchases in the app to restore Pro on your other devices signed in with the same Apple Account.

What stays free

Scanning labels and looking up barcodes are unlimited without Pro, with every allergen for one person and up to 15 saved products. We may change which features are part of Pro in future versions; a change will not take away a period you have already paid for.

License and acceptable use

We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use LabelLight on Apple devices you own or control, under the Standard EULA. You may not reverse engineer, resell or misuse the app. Product data from Open Food Facts is available under the Open Database License and belongs to its contributors.

Your data

What you enter stays on your device. Backups, exports and shares you start are your responsibility. See our Privacy Policy.

No warranty and limitation of liability

LabelLight is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including that it will find every ingredient you avoid, that recognition is accurate, or that third-party product data is complete or current. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any allergic reaction, illness, injury, loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the app or its results, including food choices made with it. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations; in those jurisdictions they apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, we will change the date above; continuing to use the app means you accept the updated terms.
