Skintel — Privacy Policy

This policy applies to Skintel, a skin tracking app for iOS.

Short version: every scan sends your photo to an AI processing provider, which is the only way Skintel can score it. We keep no copy on any server of ours, and your scores, routine and history stay on your device. We do not sell your data, we do not use it to train AI models, there are no accounts, and there are no advertising SDKs in the app. Skintel is not an offline app, and this policy explains exactly where your photo goes.

What Skintel stores on your device

The following is written to your device's local app storage and is not uploaded to us:

Your scores and readings — the overall score and the individual metrics (hydration, even tone, texture, pores, redness, dark spots, fine lines, firmness, and the visual structure estimates) for each scan, with the date.
Your scan photos — kept in the app's own storage so history and the before/after pair work. They are not uploaded to us, and deleting the app or using Delete everything in Settings removes them.
Your routine — which steps you have, and which you ticked off on which day.
Your skin profile — concerns, skin type, and any ingredient sensitivities you tell us about.
App settings — reminder preferences and whether onboarding is complete.

Deleting the app deletes all of it. You can also erase it from within the app at any time.

Your photo, and what happens to it

This is the part that matters most, so it is spelled out in full.

Every scan is analysed off your device. There is no on-device analysis mode. When you take a scan, the photo is resized on your phone and then transmitted over an encrypted connection to our processing function, which passes it to our AI processing provider (OpenAI). The result comes back and the request ends.
The photo is used solely to generate your analysis — nothing else.
We keep no copy. Our function writes the image to no database and no storage bucket; it holds it only for the seconds the request takes.
Our AI provider may retain the image for up to 30 days, solely to monitor for abuse of their API, after which they delete it. That is their standard API policy, and it is why Skintel's App Store privacy label declares photos as collected rather than claiming nothing leaves the device.
Your photo is not used to train any AI model, by us or by our provider.
We do not attach your name, email or any account identifier to the image, because Skintel has no accounts. Nothing sent with the photo identifies you.
Ingredient labels too. If you photograph a product's ingredient panel, that photo travels the same path and is handled the same way — it is read for the printed text and nothing more.

If you would rather not have a photo analysed at all, do not run a scan — the routine checklist and the rest of the app work without one.

What our App Store privacy label says

For clarity, this is exactly what we have declared to Apple, and it matches the section above: Photos or Videos — collected, used for App Functionality, not linked to your identity, and not used for tracking. We declare no other data type, because the app collects no other data.

Face data

An image of your face is personal information, and in some places it is treated as sensitive. Skintel does not perform facial recognition, does not attempt to identify you, does not match your face against any database, and does not build a face template or faceprint. The analysis measures visual characteristics of skin — texture, tone, evenness — and produces a score. Nothing about it is used to recognise a person.

What we do not do

No accounts, no sign-in, no password.
No selling or sharing of your information with data brokers or advertisers.
No advertising SDKs and no cross-app tracking.
No use of your photos or readings to train AI models.
No connection to Apple Health. Skintel neither reads from nor writes to it.

Subscriptions

Skintel Premium is sold through Apple, using Apple's own in-app purchase system directly. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — we never see your card details. There is no third-party purchase or subscription SDK in the app, so no outside company receives a customer identifier, your purchase history, or anything else from your device. We see only the aggregate sales figures Apple reports to every developer.

Analytics and crash reporting

If crash or usage reporting is enabled in a future version, it will record only technical events — that a screen opened, that a purchase completed, that an error occurred. Your photos, scores and readings are never included in analytics.

Notifications

If you turn on reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a push server and cannot send you anything.

Your controls

Delete everything — Settings has a control that erases your scans, routine history and profile from the device immediately.
Camera permission — you can revoke it in iOS Settings at any time; the rest of the app continues to work.
Uninstalling removes all locally stored data.

Because we hold no account and no server-side copy of your data, there is nothing on our side to delete on request. The one exception is the short abuse-monitoring window at our AI provider described above, which expires on its own within 30 days. If you have a question about any of it, write to us and we will answer.

Children

Skintel is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the app to take a scan, contact us and we will help.

Skintel is not medical advice

Skintel is a cosmetic tracking tool. It does not diagnose skin conditions, does not detect skin cancer or any other disease, and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. A score is an estimate from a photograph. Speak to a clinician about anything that concerns you.

Changes to this policy

If how we handle your photo or your data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will also be surfaced in the app.
